The Hungarian Community Centre Melbourne is the largest Hungarian institution outside the borders of Hungary. It provides a home to the thousands of Hungarians who live within reach of it enabling organisations and individuals to maintain their national inheritance, heritage and culture.

The Hungarian Community Centre is a not for profit organisation which works for the furtherance and assistance of the Hungarian community and endeavours to maintain Hungarian culture and pass it to future generations.

Hungarians, their organisations and groups have meetings, picnics, balls, lunches, dinners, concerts and literary functions at the Centre. Large emphasis is placed on the youth where activities such as scouting, folk dancing, Hungarian language school, play group are held continuously. The biggest festival is Hungarofest which is held biennially. This festival includes rich cultural and historic displays, continuous programs and entertainment and excellent traditional Hungarian cuisine.

Each year commemorations are held for significant historic events, for example in October, we remember the 1956 uprising.

The beautiful Szent Istvan (Saint Stephens) ecumenical church was completed at the Hungarian Community Centre in 1994. Hungarians of the Catholic, Reformed Church and Lutheran faiths can observe their Christian beliefs and traditions.

The Hungarian Community Centre and the groups within it actively participate in Australia's multicultural life, the dance groups perform at various festivals and close ties are held with other institutions, such as Buda, which is a historic home in Castlemaine.
